Fewer words, more pictures. The Zócalo was packed with people, many families with children, and surrounded by (mostly) unarmed law enforcement. My friend, the cop, told me that they weren't expecting any trouble.
La Noche de Rábanos is a really big deal here and it was fun seeing everyone having a grand time. The pictures should speak for themselves, but if they don't, here are two YouTubes 1 & 2 that should satisfy even the most curious of you, even this man, or is it a radish (Raphanus sativus)?
On the way:
Pictures with the real Santa for only 30 pesos ($2.50 US). What a deal!
¡Buen provecho! though these are NOT edible.
